In the Structured Apartment Program, the youth continue to learn and apply independent living skills while experiencing the freedom and responsibility of living their own community based apartment. The Apartment Program Coordinator maintains contact with the youth and offers emotional support, as well as problem-solving and supervision. Typically these youth meet with the Apartment Program Coordinator 3-4 times per week.
While in this phase of the program the youth are expected to find and maintain employment. While Footsteps will pay all costs associated with the apartment (eg., food, rent, utilities, phone, etc.), the youth are expected to allocate a portion of their income to pay “rent.” This rent is placed into a restricted savings account for the youth to access in the event of an emergency, or upon release from the program.
